I renamed this section from “NaNoWriMo” due to what went down in 2023 with the owners of that trademark.
NovNovels has more fun alliteration anyway. 🙂
2024: The Bonds of Blood
2024’s NovNovel is a sci-fantasy dystopian story where humanity learned magic was real and tried to fight the emergent Big Bad with tanks and nukes, fracturing most of the world into several magic-backed superpowers which are cultivating armies of mages, dealing with monsters of myth decimating all but the most fortified of cities, and figuring out how to effectively use MacGuffin stones which are basically on-demand wild surges.
This is the least-plotted story I’ve started out with yet.
2023: EXPATRIOT
2023’s NaNo is a sci-fi/western/dystopian story revolving around a now-grown child super soldier who escaped “decommissioning” at the end of a century-long global war and now runs a “transport” business across the semi-radioactive wasteland most of the western US became.
2022: Princess Renegade
For 2022’s NaNo, I topped out at 52,839 words for a story that’s been lingering in my Stories folder since 2011.
It is the beginning of an epic fantasy series, featuring a former squire, Riordan, whom everyone believes to have betrayed his King and Country, crossing paths with a crew of sky pirates in service to his dead King’s sister. The pirate’s captain, Tempest, takes him and the two royal children he saved to the Sky Isle of Fermyri, where Riordan finds himself caught up in an entirely different sort of warfare—the kind waged in the seas of the sky.
